Why
a Faire?
The Shadows Faire was created by a group of 4 friends who wanted to find something they could do that would be a gift to everyone who attended. Something that we could do on a semi-regular basis that could be exciting and different each time, while having a solid central basis that allowed growth, healing and discovery.
We
decided to follow this vision with the faire because not only
did it encompass things we were all interested in and curious
about, but it also allowed us to share our vision with everyone
who took part in it, from the vendors who generously provide
their services to the guests who visit us over our special
weekends. Whether you get fully involved, or just come to
browse, you are part of that vision.
In
our research to find out how best to do this, we found that
other expo's and fairs seem to involve a lot of money. From
the cost for the vendors to book their tables, to the prices
visitors would have to pay for services. We decided to make
a change in that. Since we have generous access to a beautiful
and amazingly healing venue (the historic Mounds Theatre),
we could charge the lowest possible fee's to our vendors just
to cover the running costs for the weekend (electricity etc.)
with a small entrance cover charge to guests to help buffer
those costs and raise a little money for the Portage for Youth
non-profit.
In turn, we wanted to ensure that the people who visited the
faire also could benefit from this, so we ask everyone who
signs up as a vendor to lower their usual rates to allow the
realization of one of the main core's of our vision - holistic
and spiritual services accesable to everyone. So at our faire,
a visitor can try out several experiences for the same price
they would pay to have just one service at other places, and
because of our low table costs, vendors can still cover their
own costs and make this unique approach worthwhile for themselves.
Our
Mission

Our core
aim is to have healers, psychics and artists providing a range
of services to visitors in a open enviornment that is inviting,
affordable and non-intimidating so that they can explore new
things without feeling any pressure.
We
want to reach both for those who perhaps are not fully enrolled
in a spiritual or new-age lifestyle but curious and wanting
to learn more, and people who have fully embraced their spiritual
side. We also want to allow people easy access to learn about
alternative & less accessable healing methods without
worrying about large costs and in a space that they can ask
any questions they want without making any commitments.
With
open minds and hearts we provide a space for people to find
out new things in a neutral space, connect with holistic healers
and psychics and most importantly, have a good time doing
it. Additionally, we encourage our vendors to speak to each
other and trade skills to make new discoverys and connections
with their peers in other fields.
By
exploration we discover, and through discovery we grow and
learn.
All
the profits
from admission and vendor space goes to support the arts programming
for youth at the Portage for Youth, a charitable 501.3 organization.
